Why the redirects are the part that actually protects you
Shopify uses fixed URL patterns for products, collections and pages, so most of your current addresses simply won't exist on the new store. Without redirects, every link and search result still pointing at your old URLs lands on an error page. We map every URL that matters and set up 301s to their new home — with one detail that catches people out: Shopify only follows a redirect once the old URL stops resolving to a live page, so the mapping has to be planned around the new store's structure from the start, not added on afterward.
The one thing that genuinely can't migrate
Customer passwords. This isn't a limitation of how we work — Shopify's own help center is explicit that passwords can't be carried over from another platform via CSV import, because your current platform encrypts them in a way Shopify can't read. Customer records and full order history do transfer; customers just need to set a new password afterward.
