Invoice vs. quote — what's the difference?
A quote (or estimate) is sent before the work starts — it's what you expect to charge, and the client hasn't agreed to pay yet. An invoice is sent after the sale or once work is delivered — it's a request for payment, usually with a due date. Switch the toggle at the top to relabel the document for either case.
What a professional invoice needs
- A unique number — makes it easy to reference in emails and accounting.
- Clear line items — what was sold, how many, and at what price.
- Payment terms — when payment is due and how to pay.
- Your contact details — so the client can reach you with questions.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to what people ask most.
Is this invoice maker really free?
Yes — no sign-up, no watermark, no limit on how many invoices or quotes you make. Everything runs in your browser.
Is my business or client data stored anywhere?
No. Nothing you type is uploaded or saved to a server — it only exists in your browser tab, and is gone when you close it.
Can I save the invoice as a PDF?
Yes. Click "Print / Save as PDF", then choose "Save as PDF" as the destination in your browser's print dialog instead of a physical printer.
Can I add my logo?
Yes — use "Add logo" above the business fields. The image stays in your browser and is only used in the preview and print-out.
What's the difference between an invoice and a quote?
A quote is sent before work starts, as an estimate. An invoice is sent after — it's a request for payment. Use the toggle at the top to switch the document type.
Does Shopify have its own invoices?
Shopify generates order receipts automatically, and draft orders can act as quotes. This tool is for quick one-off documents outside that flow, or before an order exists.

Selling on Shopify already?
